Christmas lights from atop SBNM

December 18, 2011

Bugman and I drove up Scotts Bluff National Monument this evening, the last night of three this season that Summit Road was open past dark for Christmas light viewing.

And I have to say . . . ho hum.

Sure, I guess it’s neat to see the city lights if you’ve never seen them from an airplane or other such vantage point before, but there were very few Christmas lights visible, other than those on the houses near the golf course at the foot of the monument.

It was windy and cold and not much fun. The stars were nice – you could see the Milky Way – but I probably won’t go up there again for the Christmas light viewing.

(Heading up there on the Fourth of July, on the other hand, *is* worth it.)
