Props to a bloggin’ bikin’ fund-raisin’ pastor

June 18, 2011

I had the opportunity to interview a man named Mike Reiners yesterday for an article that will appear in tomorrow’s Star-Herald (link coming soon). Mike, who is a pastor at a Grand Island church, is riding his bike 3,000 miles to each county seat in Nebraska to raise money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Nebraska.

I had to give him props in this space for a few reasons, primarily because he’s keeping a blog himself (in which his sense of humor shines through) and because he was givin’ some love to the west Nebraska scenery.

Here is a photo of the long road south through Sioux County I swiped from Pastor Mike’s blog:

Also props to J.R. Brester at Sonny’s Bike Shop who got Pastor Mike’s bike fixed up for him on short notice yesterday and didn’t charge for labor, and to the folks who are hosting and helping along the way.

Here is Pastor Mike’s explanation of why he’s undertaking this journey. If you are moved to help, there’s a donation link on his website.

Make sure to be courteous to any bikers you see out there on the Nebraska highways. It might just be a bloggin’ bikin’ fund-raisin’ pastor.
