It’s greening up around here

March 22, 2011

It seemed to happen overnight, probably because I was out of town for a week of warm temperatures.

My tulips are stretching up out of the earth.

What color will they be when they bloom? This is Husker country. Red, of course.

But my tulips are nowhere near as far along as my neighbor’s daffodils.

"HEY!" They're screaming. "IT'S SPRING, DONTCHA KNOW!"

Then I noticed the grass in the backyard, in a sheltered area near the garage.

ZOMG! Do you mean I’m going to have to mow the lawn in March?!?? That would never have happened in Illinois.

Wait a minute . . .

Sniff, sniff.

OM-NOM-NOM-NOM-NOM!

What? Why are you mooing at me?

Heh. Maybe I won’t have to mow for awhile after all.

Happy spring, everybody!

It’s great weather for it now! Yay! (Except maybe for the wind. I need to remember to bring my sunglasses for grit protection.)
