What a gorgeous day for a jaunt

January 9, 2011

Saturday morning was perfect for the first meeting of the Western Wind Running Club Couch to 5K group.

Clouds capped the monument off in the distance and a chorus of hundreds of geese accompanied us on our jaunt down the clear-of-snow Monument Valley Pathway.

Three of us took to the path for a five-minute walking warmup followed by 20 minutes of 30 seconds of running / 90 seconds of walking. At least one more person plans to join the C25K group. I hope you will consider joining, too. The more the merrier!

If you can’t make all the meetings, no worries. Just follow along with the program. This week, you’d need to get in three workouts of a 5 min walking warmup followed by 60 sec running / 90 sec walking for 20 minutes. See the WWRC C25K Facebook page here to keep up with all the group notifications.

Even if you can’t make the group meetings, I hope you’ll give the Couch to 5K program a try. It’s a real confidence booster, and participating in 5K races can be a lot of fun.

Aside from the target 5K in Fort Collins, there are plenty of 5K races closer to home in the Panhandle. Offhand, I can think of races that have been held in Sidney, Scottsbluff, Gering, Mitchell and Alliance.

Hope to see you out on the pathways!

I have the greatest admiration for you getting this started. I have no desire to run–I do love using the exercise equipment at the Y though.
