Next winter market

December 17, 2010

I will not get to attend the next winter farmers market tomorrow (December 18). I have to work that day. Will you go in my stead?

Here’s what you may find, based on the haul from the market two weeks ago. (Note: the cookies and pastries did not last long enough to be photographed).

Jelly, CHOCOLATE RASPBERRY STUFF (!), fundraiser popcorn, FRUIT-LOOP-SCENTED (it really is!) soap, lots of butternut squash.

If you have holiday events to attend and need some sweets to bring along, but don’t feel like baking, you can pick up some delectables at the market, I’m sure.

Guests arriving? Need some beef to feed them? I believe you will be similarly accommodated.

I never quite know which vendors will be there, but I bet there will be bread! And crafts.

Maybe you will find soap and aprons and lotion and honey and bison jerky.

Last market, Jeff Edwards was there, manning the WindHarvest Farms booth.

“Do you want some squash?” he asked us.

“Sure. We could use one.”

“Just one?” he said somewhat plaintively, looking down at the boxes and boxes of squashes he had brought – both butternut and acorn – at about 5 minutes before the market ended.

We bought a boxful of butternuts. And also some jars of raspberry chocolate stuff. I can’t quite call it “fudge” because the texture is more like a stiff jelly than fudge.

Speaking of jelly, Christina Jammin’ Armstrong of Beeloved Jam fame is venturing into jelly territory, in some flavors likely to appeal to Nebraska holiday gift recipients. (I wonder if the red-waxed gouda “N”s will return to the Victory Hill Farm booth?)

According to the Beeloved Jam Facebook page, this will be the last market for Beeloved this season.

At the last several markets, the ambiance was kicked up a notch by the Green Valley Homesteaders.

At one point, these guys were sweetly harmonizing on “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” to entertain the young daughters of a couple of the vendors. So sweet!

Enjoy the market, folks!
