Dang, this is purty country

November 16, 2010

Especially at sunrise . . .

The sun set the bluffs ablaze this morning as I drove past on my way to Cheyenne.

On a hill along Highway 88 east of Steagall Road, a herd of more than 2 dozen pronghorn grazed in the early morning light, their tan and white coats a visual call-and-response with the snow-dotted landscape of autumn-dried grasses. With snow showers on the way to trump the sun, the sky was aswirl with every possible shade of blue-gray.

This is purty country.

When we were children, we could see everything. When we became adults, we were blinded by our brilliance. After a time, if we were fortunate, we began to see again, and to know wisdom.

I had left the area for 8 years and then moved back. Growing up here I took the beauty of the area for granted, but this second time around I’ve been purposely noticing how great our surroundings are.
